Description: 

Educator: Department of Children, Youth and FamiliesReporting to the Children, Youth and Families Education Coordinator, the Educator is responsible for the implementation of the educational programs within the After School Program (A.S.P.) Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess individual student’s academic capacities
  • Design and implement individual education plans and learning corners
  • Support student’s completion of homework
  • Teach children academic and social development skills
  • Promote a positive learning environment
  • Promote positive individual and group behaviour
  • Actively monitor the academic progress of the students within the program
  • Intervene effectively in conflict situations
  • Ensure positive interpersonal working relationships with parents, team members, volunteers and children
  • Conduct school visits and establish good working relationships with teachers of the students from the After-School Program
  • Supervise, support and integrate volunteers/interns during the programs
  • Efficiently complete all administrative tools and tasks assigned by Education Coordinator
  • Actively participate and come prepared for supervisory meetings and staff meetings
  • Ensure the equipment, material and supplies are properly used and stored

Skills, Experience: 

Qualifications:

  • CEGEP degree in a related field or relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in child animation and program planning
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of issues facing children in marginalized communities
  • Strong understanding of and ability to support child development
  • Strong organization skills, ability to delegate, multi-task and manage time
  • Facility with the computer
  • Ability to communicate in French and English
  • Must be a team-player; learning, working and communicating with other staff members is essential
