Summary of positionUnder the supervision of the Executive Director, the Librarian provides appropriate educational programming, for children aged 2-13 years old, within an inclusive learning environment within the community of Little Burgundy. They will display positive leadership and work as part of the management team for the overall growth and well-being of the organization and community. Duties and ResponsibilitiesCommunity Outreach:Daycare story times

  • Schedule weekly story time with local CPE daycares and home daycares, as well as within the Early Childhood department at Tyndale St Georges.
  • Plan and implement a routine (choose books, songs and rhymes to match a theme) for each story time visit
  • Facilitate the borrowing-of-books process at these facilities, as necessary
  • Offer suggestions to early childhood staff selecting books to supplement classroom themes, as necessary
  • Special events
  • Attend local fairs and festival events in promotion of Tyndale St-Georges and the children’s library, with the support of other Tyndale St-Georges staff
  • Organize, plan, implement and schedule special guests (authors, science guests, etc.)

 Library-specific duties:Managing Circulation

  • Add new memberships: provide library orientation for new members, enter membership information into library system
  • Circulate books (loan & return books), collect fines, organize and contact library members with overdue loans
  • Return borrowed books to their place on the shelves
  • Become familiarized with circulation system: libib.com

Managing Collection:

  • Maintain the robust book collection of approximately 7, 000 children’s books
  • Order new books according to the needs of the participants and current trends, with special attention to diverse character representation
  • Access the quality of donated books to either integrate them into the collection or donate them to another organization

Organize Afterschool programming:

Job description

Reporting to the Service Supervisor, the intervention support worker is responsible for warmly greeting the homeless people who come to the Old Brewery Mission.

He assists with the integration and supervision of clients in the various programs and services offered, and intervenes in emergency and crisis situations. He is also responsible for assessing clients’ needs, ensuring their personal development, and supervising their activities in the common rooms. In matters related to client care, he acts as the liaison with other health and social services.

Finally, he ensures that meal and shower times run smoothly, attends intake meetings for new clients, and ensures the safety and well-being of clients at all times.

Requirements

  • College diploma in a relevant fiend
  • OR
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience
  • Comfortable around homeless people
  • Strong ability to assess and intervene in a crisis situation

Additional information
