The Research Chair on Gambling is currently looking to hire three research assistants to support our research and dissemination activities in the research field of gambling. Description of the job Under the supervision of coordinator and the Chairholder of the Research Chair on Gambling, the applicant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Support the organisation of scientific events and dissemination activities;
  • Conduct literature reviews;
  • Assist in the writing and preparation of scientific articles and presentations.

 Work conditions

  • Schedule: part-time (between 7 and 21 hours per week)

Communications Intern - Cinema Politica

The Cinema Politica Network is a media arts, non-profit network of community and campus locals that screen independent political film and video by Canadian and international artists throughout Canada and abroad. Cinema Politica is seeking to hire a Communications Intern who will work closely with the CP Executive Director to assist with outreach and communications, media relations, writing and basic graphic design. We are interested in applicants who have a specific interest in documentary, film, media and/or communications. This position is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate of an applicable degree or diploma programme who is interested in experience in a small but dedicated non-profit media arts organization with a commitment to creativity, activism and social justice. One-week training and regular mentorship will be provided.This is a full-time contract position with a possibility of renewal. Remuneration for the internship is $15 per hour. Candidates must qualify for Emploi-Québec’s salary subsidy program.   • Creating, managing and promoting Facebook events, pages and groups
  • Regularly updating Vimeo and Youtube accounts

Media Relations

  • Managing press lists and media contacts
  • Assisting with the creation and dissemination of press releases
  • Disseminating CP communiqués by email and social media
  • Managing media requests
  • Organizing and maintaining CP’s media archives

Outreach

  • Connecting and liaising with community and media arts partners and organizations
  • Maintaining and updating community partner database

General

  • Organize and maintain communications database as well as contact lists of CP creative contractors, such as photographers, videographers, translators and writers
  • Assist the team with day-to-day communications-related tasks and campaigns
  • Assist with coordination of communication aspects and on-site execution of various events
  • Work closely with the CP team to complete time-sensitive tasks

  • Pre-screen and process submissions
  • Circulate titles to programming committee and facilitates their work,

  • Prepare programming meeting lists, coordinate and attend meetings and take notes
  • Communicate with rights holders and provide feedback when requested
  • Maintain a master list of submissions and requests
  • Maintain a database of distributors and sales agents

Acquisition

  • Negotiate and secure screening fees with rights holders based on CP fee structure and allocated budget
  • Ensure balance and diversity in programming
  • Process contracts and invoices
  • Manage deliverables, including digital assets, press kits, etc. and handle print traffic
  • Maintain master list of acquisitions
  • Track number of screenings and request invoicing
  • Draft communication materials announcing new acquisitions

General

  • Work with Director of Programming to ensure all programing adheres to Cinema Politica’s mandate and curatorial approach and vision
  • Provide regular reports
  • Assist the Network Coordinator with local programming requests
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients and rights holders
  • Liaise with filmmakers, distributors and CP locals when necessary
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Work closely with the CP team to complete time-sensitive tasks

The People's Potato is Hiring

The primary activity of the People's Potato is to serve daily vegan lunch to about 500 people on the Concordia University SGW Campus. The People's potato is a worker-run organization where decisions are made collectively. Collective memebers both guide and execute the vision of the organisation.

 

Individuals hired will cook, clean, and pick up food donations; many tasks require heavy lifting. Collective members will take on a variety of these 3 to 5 hours shifts each week and will participate in committee work such as organising workshops, coordinating volunteers, stocking and organizing the kitchen, e.t.c.

Contracts typically begin in mid-august, end mid-may, and are renewed on a yearly basis. We are seeking applicants who are able to make at least a one year commitment. Work schedules are flexible, however collective members are expected to be available most weekdays between 8:30 am and 3:30pm

Salary/Hourly Rate:  $17.08/hr, 8 to 15 hours a week

Responsibilities:
– Greet students coming into the CSU office in a polite and pleasant manner, and provide detailed information about the CSU (including its services, campaigns, events, projects, and the Student Health and Dental coverage), and general information about university and affiliates services. Answer in-person, over the phone and email enquiries, and refer on as appropriate.
– Accept requisition forms, special project & bursary applications, space reservation request, club registrations, and various other documents, ensure completeness of information, and forward to the appropriate executive and staff.
– Approve postings according to established guidelines and inform students of current postering policy.
– Send faxes, distribute mail and packages, and maintain inventory of materials and supplies for the office.
– Update documents in reserve for the general public and CSU executives and staff. Photocopy and collate documents for distribution.
– Sell event tickets and promotional items. Maintain petty cash box.
– Assist executives, staff and student groups with booking meeting rooms and information booths.
