HOJO Assistant- Fall 2017

The CSU Off-Campus Housing and Job Resource Centre (HOJO) assists the Concordia community with legal and general information and support in regards to housing and employment opportunities and issues. The Hojo Assistants provide information and support in regards to finding housing and employment and/or dealing with problems in either area. This person will speak with landlords, employers, and students in person, over the phone and via email to give them information on rental and employment regulations, and will promote our service. The Hojo Assistant will do database searches for available housing and provide job referral information for students. They will also promote the service by speaking with the public during tabling, workshops and conference events. They will review online postings, register new users online, collect statistics on service usage, in addition to filing, updating files, answering email and phone calls and such tasks that are required for the running of the Housing and Job Resource Centre.

Campaigns Assistant

Description/Scope

 

The Campaigns Assistant will inform and mobilize students on the annual campaign of the CSU and other CSU campaigns, under the supervision of the Campaigns Coordinator. They will achieve this through classroom announcements, postering, leafleting, tabling, social media outreach and by assisting in the organization of various campaigns events. They will be responsible for volunteer recruitment, training and coordination. The Campaigns Assistant may not be required to work on non-campaign events, such as the CSU orientation, or for the CSU services.


Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Campaigns Coordinator, and the External Affairs and Mobilization Coordinator to define and design the scope of a campaign, and develop a strategic plan for the annual as well as other CSU campaigns;
  • Staying informed about the social political issues the CSU is campaigning on;
  • Promoting the campaigns and campaigns related events of the CSU on the ground and by online means, under the direction of the Campaigns Coordinator;
  • Recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers;
  • Taking part in the organization of campaigns related events, including procurement, production of information materials, set-up and take-down of event installations;
  • Developing collaborations and long-term partnerships with campus and off-campus organizations as required by the Campaigns department;
  • Attending related meetings as required by campaigns department.

Looking for a roommate for my ground-level apartment that is within short walking distance from Concordia's downtown campus. Rent is $555 a month, all utilities (minus electricity) are included. Includes a washer and dryer in the apartment itself, along with WiFi and appliances. The apartment is also furnished (minus bed sheets). Rent starts on September 1st, but you should be able to move in any time after August 21st.

Student Monitors

Concordia Continuing Education is seeking three (3) Concordia students for the position of student monitors. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Programs, Academic Coordinator and Program Activity Coordinator at the CCE, the monitors will promote and participate in social and cultural activities for students enrolled in the Intensive English as a Second Language Program, French language program and visiting groups at the Centre for Continuing Education. This position will begin in the 2017 fall term and extend across the academic year. Duties include: 

  • Attend training in working with international student population;
  • Attend new student orientations;
  • Monitor, plan and supervise weekly afternoon workshops, activities and outings;
  • Accompany students on socio-cultural outings on campus, locally and regionally;
  • Provide opportunities to students to explore the Concordia campus;
  • Facilitate language practice activities for students in French and English.

 Qualifications and Criteria for Selection: 

  • Successfully completed at least 2 years of an undergraduate program at Concordia;
  • Experience in organizing and implementing recreational activities and events;
  • Excellent communication skills in English and French;
  • Excellent time management and team work skills;
  • Interest in working with an international student population and/or previous experience in working with an ESL population an asset;
  • Sensitivity to working with diverse groups;
  • Monitors must have some weekday availability;
  • Must be available on Fridays; 
  • Must be available to accompany students on the whole school outing day.
