ROCK CAMP FOR GIRLS AND GENDER NONCONFORMING YOUTH MONTREAL IS HIRING THREE CAMP COORDINATORS* FOR ITS SUMMER CAMP WEEK 2019! *Please note that these positions are funded by Canada Summer Jobs, which provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years.Rock Camp for Girls and Gender Nonconforming Youth Montreal acknowledges that Tio'tia:ke, so called Montreal, is the traditional and unceded territory of the Kanien’keha:ka (Mohawk).  1 | ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONRock Camp for Girls and Gender Nonconforming Youth Montreal (RCFG*) is an organization that holds a week-long summer camp where campers discover and express their talents, and become leaders in creating their own cultural production through music. Musicians and community members support campers through instrument instruction, tech tutorials, band practice and skill-building workshops. At the week’s end, campers get the chance to show off their talents to friends, family, and community members at the Showcase Concert.RCFG* fosters the promotion of self-esteem, skill-building and critical thinking skills for girls and gender non-conforming youth through collaborative music composition and performance. RCFG* supplements the music component with workshops based on feminist and anti-oppression frameworks that provide campers with a space for critical examination and personal empowerment.The goal is for girls and gender non-conforming youth to rock in all aspects of life! 2 | ABOUT THE JOB POSITIONSThe three employees will be supervised by RCFG*’s Planning Committee throughout the duration of their contract. The Camp Committee, as well as the Human Resources Committee, will offer an in-depth training during the employees’ first week of employment. This training will include background information about the organization, as well as examples of how the job has been done in the past. The training will equip the employees with the information and tools necessary to complete the necessary tasks within their job description. The Camp Committee and the Human Resources Committee will be available to answer any questions throughout the employees’ contracts and will be accessible by phone or email Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm, and during weekends, 10am-6pm. The employees will also be supported/evaluated by the Human Resources Committee who will set a meeting with the employees every week in order to clarify the job responsibilities, as well as to follow-up on the employees’ overall performance.Mandatory requirements

  • Age between 15 and 30 years old
  • Fluent in French and/or in English, bilingualism and other languages an asset
  • Permission to work in Canada (citizenship, residency, work permit)
  • Availability full-time (between 20 and 40 hours a week) between May 27 - August 9 (240-hour contract, flexibility with start and end date)

 A | VOLUNTEER AND YOUTH COORDINATORThe Volunteer and Youth Coordinator, working with the Camp Committee, will be in charge of:  Prior to Camp week (May 27 - July 26):

  • Follow up on Camper Applications via email and phone
  • Send Acceptance Packages to parents and guardians
  • Compile youth information in a coordination file
  • Follow up and communicate with parents and guardians
  • Do call-outs and community outreach in order to find volunteers for camp
  • Create a social media presence recruiting volunteers
  • Liaise with volunteer applications via email and phone
  • Organize the master list of volunteer positions necessary during camp week
  • Follow up and interview potential volunteers (confirm the volunteer team for camp 2019)
  • Update the volunteer handbook, to be given to all confirmed volunteers
  • Produce volunteer and camper zines (booklet containing all relevant information pertaining to camp), along with the other coordinators
  • Plan and execute two volunteers and campers meet and greets (July 13 & 21)
  • Plan and execute volunteer trainings (July 13, 21, 27 & 28)
  • Organize regular coordination meetings with the other coordinators\

 During camp (July 26 - August 5):

  • Verify youth attendance every morning, lunch and evening, with the help of the Band Managers
  • Follow up with parents and guardians in case of a camper’s unplanned absence
  • Make sure all volunteers are aware of their daily responsibilities
  • Stay on the camp site and coordinate the volunteers as necessary
  • Facilitate end-of-day meetings for volunteers to ask questions about their responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison between volunteers / facilitate communication amongst volunteers

 After camp (August 5 - 9):

  • Create a feedback survey for volunteers and youth
  • Gather the feedback information and create a comprehensive document
  • Write an exit report about the job position with recommendations for the next year

 B | PROGRAM COORDINATORSProgram Coordination tasks will be divided between two people, as follows:  B.1 | PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR Prior to Camp week (May 27 - July 26):

  • Community outreach in order to find resources for camp
  • Create a social media presence and promotion material
  • Participate actively in camp week programming (workshops and trainings)
  • Liaise with Volunteer and Youth Coordinator, Camp Committee and Human Resources Committee
  • Plan camp week activities and fall programs
  • Plan meet and greets and trainings
  • Stay on site and coordinate activities
  • Plan and lead volunteer trainings (July 13, 21, 27 & 28)
  • Produce volunteer and camper zines (booklet containing all relevant information pertaining to camp), along with the other coordinators

 During camp (July 26 - August 5):

  • Make sure all the volunteers and coordination team are aware of the programming content and what’s going on during camp at all times
  • Greet workshop facilitators and introduce them to camp and its running
  • Facilitate a debrief with each facilitator after their workshop
  • Stay on camp site and coordinate activities and programmings

 After camp (August 5 - 9):

  • Write an exit report about the job position with recommendations for the next year
  • Participate in end of year financial and legal tasks (Annual General Meeting preparation and Annual Report)

 B.2 | LOGISTIC COORDINATOR Prior to Camp week (May 27 - July 26):

  • Call-outs and community outreach in order to find resources for camp
  • Create a social media presence to find equipment/resources
  • Create and update a master list of materials needed for camp
  • Liaise with Volunteer and Youth Coordinator, Camp Committee and Human Resources Committee
  • Research where to borrow/rent music equipment
  • Confirm all the music equipment necessary for camp week with Concordia Interns
  • Confirm all the food/kitchen supplies necessary for camp week
  • Confirm all the materials/furniture/infrastructure necessary for camp week
  • Stay on site and coordinate gear and equipment
  • Plan and lead volunteer trainings (July 13, 21, 27 & 28)
  • Produce volunteer and camper zines (booklet containing all relevant information pertaining to camp), along with the other coordinators

 During camp (July 26 - August 5):

  • Make sure all volunteers are aware of the gear and materials available during camp
  • Brief the technical and gear team every morning, inform the volunteers of any changes
  • Stay on camp site and coordinate the gear and equipment

 After camp (August 5 - 9):

  • Write an exit report about the job position with recommendations for the next year
  • Participate in end of year financial and legal tasks (Annual General Meeting preparation and Annual Report)

 C | SKILLS, ASSETS & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Fluent in both French in English (spoken and written) an asset, other languages also an asset
  • Administrative responsibilities (email correspondence, budgeting)
  • Computer literacy (cloud computing, data management, social media etc.)
  • Community liaison (coordinating with other organizations, networking)
  • Time-management, weekly scheduling, volunteer coordination
  • Personal organization, attention to detail, effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Anti-oppressive, feminist & inclusive values
  • Experience working with youth, overall commitment to youth empowerment

 D | JOB DETAILS 

  • Salary: $15/hour
  • Schedule: 30 hours/week average, 240-hour contract (flexible and variable schedule)
  • Location: Centre du Plateau, located at 2275, boul. Saint-Joseph est, Montréal (if needed), teleworking and on camp site, at the John Molson School of Business, located on Concordia University Sir George William Campus (1450, rue Guy).
