Terms of Service

By accessing or using HOJO Classifieds (“HOJO”, “the platform”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). These Terms form a legal agreement between you and the Concordia Student Union (CSU) Off-Campus Housing & Job Resource Centre.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the platform. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of HOJO after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

HOJO is intended primarily for:

• Current and prospective Concordia University students.
• Concordia faculty and staff.
• Landlords and employers seeking to connect with the Concordia community.

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account or post listings. By using HOJO, you represent that you meet this requirement. We reserve the right to verify eligibility and suspend accounts that do not meet our criteria.

To post listings or send messages, you must create a free HOJO account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate, complete, and current registration information.
• Maintain the security of your password and not share account access.
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
• Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, contain false information, or are used in a manner we deem harmful to users or the platform.

When posting a listing on HOJO, you agree that your content will:

• Be accurate, truthful, and not misleading.
• Relate to housing, employment, or buy-and-sell items relevant to the Concordia community.
• Not contain discriminatory language based on race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
• Not advertise illegal products, services, or activities.
• Not include personal contact information in photos or description fields beyond what is necessary.
• Comply with all applicable Québec and Canadian laws, including the Residential Tenancies Act and the Labour Standards Act.

Prohibited listings

The following are strictly prohibited on HOJO:

• Listings with false, deceptive, or fraudulent information.
• Rental listings that violate Québec tenant protection laws (e.g. illegal key deposits, rent above the legal increase).
• Job postings that violate Québec minimum wage or labour standards.
• Spam, duplicate, or automated listings.
• Adult content, weapons, drugs, or controlled substances.

HOJO reserves the right to remove any listing that violates these rules without notice and to suspend or ban accounts responsible for repeated violations.

When using HOJO, you agree not to:

• Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users.
• Attempt to access accounts, systems, or data you are not authorized to access.
• Use automated bots, scrapers, or crawlers to collect data from the platform.
• Interfere with the operation or security of the platform.
• Impersonate another person, organization, or HOJO staff.
• Use the platform for any commercial purpose beyond posting legitimate listings.
• Post content that infringes intellectual property rights of third parties.

Violations may result in immediate account suspension and, where appropriate, referral to Concordia University or law enforcement authorities.

All content, design, logos, and software comprising the HOJO platform are the property of the Concordia Student Union or its licensors and are protected by applicable copyright and trademark law.

By posting content (listings, photos, descriptions) on HOJO, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating the platform. You retain ownership of your content and may remove it at any time by deleting your listing or account.

You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to all content you post, and that posting such content does not infringe any third-party rights.

HOJO is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or legality of any listing posted by users.

HOJO is not a party to any transaction between users. We are not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of listings, the truth of listing descriptions, the ability of sellers to sell, or the ability of buyers to pay.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the CSU and HOJO shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including disputes between users.

We strongly encourage you to exercise caution, meet in safe public places, and consult HOJO staff if you have questions about housing or employment rights before entering into any agreement.

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at hojo@csu.qc.ca. Upon account closure, your listings will be removed and your data handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to HOJO at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or is otherwise harmful to users, the platform, or the CSU.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Montréal, Québec.
